Lynwood MCM
This home is in the Lynwood neighborhood of Denver, a few blocks away from the well-known mid-century modern Krisana Park neighborhood. The enclave, which includes approximately 80 mid-century homes developed by H.B. Wolff & Co., includes unique features and a variety of roof features, like A-frames and split levels.
This split-level already had several cleverly positioned clerestory windows to allow light to stream into all parts of the home. With a large lot and a 2,000-square-foot floor plan, the project scope included updating the kitchen and finishes throughout, creating a primary suite above the existing garage, adding a more inviting entry, and opening the house up with a lot more glass to the backyard.
While we were thoughtful about whether or not the butterfly or “M'' roof should be preserved, the clients felt strongly that the low existing ceiling heights made the space unsuitable for a primary suite. Since the “M'' roof is not a typical feature of the homes, we proceeded with modifying it so the space within was optimized for functionality, and comfort.
Sustainability Features: Low-E Weathershield windows and doors, low-flow toilets, reused structure/flooring/siding, all new insulation, Energy-Star appliances, LED lighting, tankless water heater
