Krisana Park MCM
We have been intrigued by mid-century modern architecture for years and have enjoyed exploring the homes in Krisana Park and Arapahoe Acres. In 2013, we bought a mid-century home in Krisana Park, Denver, that was in dire need of renovation. Sadly, it had been poorly renovated over the years, with little regard for the authenticity of the architecture and lacked any original vintage elements.
Our primary objective was to create a comfortable, modern Scandinavian feel while maintaining the original essence of the architecture. We wanted to increase the square footage, add storage, and preserve single-level living. Additionally, we wanted an open-plan layout with improved visual transparency and physical access to the front and back yards, which were lacking in the existing home.
We updated all heating and electrical systems, updated the roof, and reworked the layout to include an office/studio, two kids' bedrooms and bathrooms, a laundry room, and a garage. We used the same custom post and beam with a structural wood ceiling as in the original house to maintain a seamless space.
To ensure sustainability and energy efficiency, we reused the existing ceiling structure and roof system, kept the original flooring, and utilized products from green companies. We also implemented LED lighting, solar panels, and various energy-saving measures within our budget to make our renovation environmentally friendly.
Overall, our renovation transformed the mid-century modern home into a bright, functional, and welcoming living space that we are pleased to call our own.
