Golden MCM Kitchen
This new kitchen project was for a truly original mid-century modern home in Golden, CO. The home had a lot of vintage details, but the kitchen was dated and needed a design that would fit the aesthetic of the home.
The owners wanted the small kitchen to fit within the existing kitchen space, but with more functionality. The challenge was that the existing kitchen had a step-down and numerous openings, which made for a very disjointed layout. To solve it, we removed a wall, added an island, and reformatted the space to maximize storage and make the kitchen more usable, while also opening it up to the living space with the views.
We love it when clients want to do something out of the ordinary, and this couple delivered. They asked for plywood cabinets with exposed edges and some pops of color. The cabinetmaker was up for the challenge of fabricating these using marine-grade plywood with laminated colorful fronts. The kitchen turned out really playful and complements the mid-century modern vibe too.
